The History of Mormon Choirs

The idea of Mormon community choirs is not novel. Indeed, this tradition has existed since the early days of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, sometimes as extensions of ward and stake choirs (choirs associated with local congregations), and sometimes independent. In more recent decades, choirs have emerged in the United States and abroad, associating themselves with their communities and including the name “Mormon” in their titles following the tradition of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. There are dozens of Mormon choirs currently in existence, all of which are for adults. What sets OCMCO apart is that it is the only Mormon choral “organization,” consisting of several choirs, including those for children, youth, and adults, and an orchestra.  The following are links to other notable Mormon choirs:
